Morning Climb

2011 Hot Doggett 100 was a HUGE success!

What a great day!! It looks like there was a 15 percent increase in riders this year for a total of 330 registered cyclists. Although the temperature rose to the upper 80s in the late afternoon, the rain held off (we had well over an inch of rain Saturday night, though!). If you're interested in seeing the rider results, click on the "results" page.

Several people asked about the t-shirts this year. Each year as part of the entry fee, we give a "commemorative item" with the date and logo. We have discussed lots of options ( t-shirts, socks, water bottles, etc.) and for the first 5 years, always came back to the t-shirt. For this year, we found a great canvas tote bag that was in the same price range as the shirts and decided to make the change. We liked the idea that the bag was a "green" alternative to grocery bags or it could be used to schlep your stuff (ie change of clothes, towel and stuff from your car to the showers after a long ride). The post ride survey included a question about this change - so that we can know how our cyclists felt about this change. To cover our butts for those who really wanted a t-shirt, we order a couple of dozen t-shirts to sell - and we sold out of those by mid afternoon, so we now know that this is a popular option.

There were also a couple dozen pre-registered cyclists who did not get a goodie bag and should have. We tried to correct this during the post ride meal, but we didn't catch 'em all. If you were pre-registered and didn't get a goodie bag, please click on the "contact us" and send me a note and we'll figure out how to get it to you.

Unfortunately, the on-line entry forms included the question about t-shirt size and were not changed after we decided to go with the bag instead of the t-shirt (our bad!) so it gave the impression that there would still be a t-shirt. Sorry that this caused confusion. In the next few days, we'll research a cost-effective way to mail them as well as get a PayPal account set up. If you are interested in a shirt, they'll be $10 plus shipping.

Organizing an event like the Hot Doggett 100 requires a LOT of support. We'd like to do a "shout out" to all of the volunteers who helped - some worked for many months on the planning committee. We had lots of meetings and lots of discussions about ways to make this the best ride you'll do all year. Special thanks goes to Mike Stevenson, who had been the event director since its inception and has worked tirelessly to continuously improve the event each year.

The Hot Doggett 100 would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Please scroll to the bottom of any page on our web site or click on the "sponsors" page to see who helped us with a donation. And if you know any of these businesses or individuals, thank them and mention that you saw that they supported a great ride!!

*Every attempt will be made to ensure all riders receive a commemorative t-shirt on the day of the event. You're encouraged to pre-register (by June 13) in order to guarantee that you will get a t-shirt in your preferred size. For registrations after June 13, there may be a small mailing fee in the unlikely event that supplies run out.
